Beachness

We just got home from Gulf Shores this afternoon. It was a late anniversary, plus Reid’s birthday, trip.

It was a trip of ups and downs. Mostly ups, though. And anytime Jack threw a fit, he eventually found a way to redeem himself.

Jack hadn’t been to the beach since he was itty bitty (4 months old). We weren’t sure what to expect with him, but we assumed he’d love it.

We were wrong.

Kind of. Two year olds have this way of being unstable and unpredictable. Jack hated it in the mornings, begged to go back to the condo; but, after a nap or after dinner, he was fine with it. Maybe even smiled about it.

Regardless if he had fun or not, REID AND I had a GREAT time, ha!

It did wear us out, though. Reid and I were in bed by 9:30, at the latest, every night. I think one night we may have stayed up til 10! But, Jack was getting up at 6am everyday, so we knew we had to prepare for that.

Jack went to visit my parents and sister on Sunday since they live close by. It was really sad seeing him crying/screaming when we picked him up and he realized he wasn’t going back home with them. Although, it’s nice to know that even though they live 4 hours away, he has a good relationship with them and knows and loves them.

It was really nice to have a beach day to ourselves, which meant reading a book on the beach, then going out for a quiet dinner.

It was so great to get away and not worry about anything. No rushing to get anywhere. No errands to run. The biggest decision we had to make every day was where to eat. Or if we were going to get in the pool before heading back to the condo.

But, now we’re home and jumping full force into work schedules and our daily routines. Fighting the we-just-got-back-from-vacation-and-we’re-a-little-sad-it’s-over blues.

I took over 400 pictures, so we can look back and pretend we’re there again. Right?

Jack’s speech therapist is coming over in the morning for his first session; not sure what to expect.

PS: Late August is the best time for the beach! We had the pool to ourselves and the beach wasn’t crowded at all!
