Dressed Up Jack

October 5, 2010

Jack is 18 months old, weighing in at a whopping 21 pounds and 32 inches tall. That makes him average height, but almost in the underweight range. When Reid was his age, he was 28 inches tall and 20 pounds. Cammie, Reid’s sister, was 17 pounds at that age!! Needless to say, this whole being skinny thing is in his genes.

What this means now that it’s getting colder outside is clothing issues. During the summer, he’s gotten by with wearing 9 and 12 months clothes because they’re shorts and sleeveless.

But pants are a problem. 18 months sizes are too baggy and won’t stay up, but are the right length. 12 months fit perfectly, except he’s flooding.

I just had a fashion show with Jack and made him try on 9 pairs of pants. Two fit. But they’re a pair of black corduroys and a pair of jeans with a bicycle on them–so they won’t go with a lot.

Shirts are the same way- they’re either the right sleeve length and baggy, or too short and a perfect fit.

What does fit? Longalls and overalls. Thankfully, my MIL just scored quite a few pair of overalls at a consignment sale for him.

So, if you see Jack this fall/winter, he’ll probably be really dressed up or in overalls. If he’s dressed up, wearing a nice longall to the park, just know we’re not trying to be cool and one-up all the other kids; they’re just all that fits.

FYI, I realize we’re not all from the South, so here’s what a longall is:

This is a romper/JonJon/shortall:

If I were rich and I knew Jack could wear this longer than a month, I’d buy this:

(Btw, Jack’s 18 months old and just tried on his first pair of jeans last week! I figure I’ve got 1-2 more yeasr left of jonjons before it’s creepy looking, but can wear jeans the rest of his life.)

We have the same problem! Why can’t children’s clothing companies figure out to make pants longer for the skinny kids?!

As for the last outfit….get a white longsleeve t shirt, put the applique on it and wear it with brown cords!!!! Then, make one for your nephew too.
