Too sweet not to share

I realize this blog is on the verge of becoming all about Jack, but that’s pretty much my life lately, so there you go. Plus, I know his grandparents don’t mind seeing new pictures of him everyday.

Look how cute Jack was during his nap today!! He’s hugging Roger in his sleep!

The Redneck Pack & Play

Curiousity got the better of me and I had to see Jack’s reaction to being in the laundry basket while I did laundry.

He loved it. Played in it for about 40 minutes.

Score!

Appreciating the Now

Despite my sister-in-law and brother-in-law telling us how easy Jack is/was when he was a newborn, we didn’t fully understand what they were saying. They talked of taking their firstborn with them to restaurants, shopping, etc and it was incredible because she’d sleep the whole time.

When Jack was firstborn, I didn’t think I was going to survive, much less take him out to eat with us.

Time has proven that I did survive and looking back I wish I would have fully appreciated the easiness of a newborn. They really do sleep ALL the time.

Jack’s still an easy baby. I’ve learned to appreciate his laidbackness. People continually ask if he’s crawling and are taken back when I tell them no.

Honestly, I am so thankful he’s not crawling yet. I can leave him in the living room while I go to the office or the bathroom and not have to worry what he’s going to be into when I get back. I know he’ll be right where I left him.

I’m appreciating him being an easy shopper. We were shopping the other day and I witnessed a mom with two toddlers trying to shop. Her experience was nothing like mine. Jack isn’t getting into other stuff, reaching for cookies, screaming for a toy, etc etc. And that day will come, I’m sure, but for now he just sits in the stroller with his feet propped up.

This can’t be comfortable, but this is how he ends up sometimes when we shop.

Too many Jacks!

Well, hello there!

Craziest Christmas Tree

I was looking up some ideas tonight on HGTV.com for Jack’s bathroom and stumbled across this….

It’s one thing to decorate a tree in the Whoville theme, but this is pretty hilarious. And creepy.

See more here.

Late Night Parties

Jack’s fifth tooth popped through last night (on the bottom) and now the sixth and seventh are barely peeking through the top.

It’s funny, I wouldn’t even know anything was going on in his mouth because I don’t look in his mouth that much. Even when I brush his teeth, I’m just thankful he lets me in his mouth and doesn’t complain, so I don’t do a lot of probing. Today I realized the new tooth because he cried with his mouth wide open.

I will say, knock on wood (and don’t hate me), that he’s been pretty great with the teething, thus far. He’s been pretty good during the day. Last week seemed a little iffy because he wasn’t eating. Thats a whole different story.

The only time we’ve noticed discomfort is Jack waking up once a night the past couple of days. Complete silence, then just a scream of terror from nowhere.

Want to hear our incredible parenting skills?? Ok, I’ll share. Last night, the scream of terror comes and nothing we do calms him down which is odd. This is not like him. We medicine him up with the orajel and whatnot, walk around, try to feed him, etc etc. NOTHING works. But then, I put on The Backyardigans and it’s like magic. Silence.

We’ve tried other cartoons but nothing is as mesmerizing as Backyardigans. We let him watch about ten minutes, just enough to let him relax, and then put him to bed. And he’s great.

Now, tonight at midnight I was still awake because Deena had just left. Reid’s asleep and I need something to distract him while I make a bottle. What do I do? Chewbacca.

I place Jack on the floor next the kitchen, then Chewy rubs against Jack and Jack pets him while I make a bottle. Silence, once again. I use my cat as a babysitter. Chewy even laid down next to Jack while Jack continued to pet him. Craziness!

So, there’s the basis of how great of parents we are— TV and letting the cat babysit our kid. I bet you won’t see that in any parenting books.

Current Favorite Toy

Please notice the smirk on my child’s face. Hmmm…wonder where he gets this from…

Jack loves this fish bowl. You put the ball in and it makes a splash noise and lights up. Hooray!

Pure concentration

“Who moved my bowl over there??”

Proof that Jack has hair. It’s just very light. (And red!)

Show Us Your Life – Christmas Tree

2009 December 7

My mom has always had a blue Christmas tree for as long as I can remember. It’s not technically blue, but decorated with blue and silver bows, etc. It’s quite elaborate and Southern Livingish. We’ve never really had a theme for our tree, but it looks like it’s become a red and silver tree.

Our tree has been different every year it seems. The first year it was a real tree with multicolored lights, Simpson ornaments, Barbie ornaments, and super random stuff. It’s eventually progressed to this:
I know yall have seen this picture, but its the best picture of the tree I have.

Reid thinks its interested that I love country type Christmas decor. Like with pine cones, sticks, with country plaid ribbons. We haven’t gone that far with it yet because Reid’s not a big fan, but I think every year I’ll sneak some in.

For now, here are some ornaments on our tree.

Can you see the “D”? This is special because our real estate agent gave it to us to celebrate our first Christmas in this house.

We got this from Disney this year. I LOVE it. Subtle, but still Mickey Mouse.

This makes me laugh!

Jack got this ornament for Christmas last year.

I made this in Home Ec. in 8th grade. Talented, I know.

Our first Christmas. Awwwww….

My mom got this for me when I was in high school. I love it, but it goes toward the back of the tree lately (Sorry, Mom!).

This isn’t our tree, but here’s our lately Christmas addition. It was a gift for Jack from Reid’s mom. He needs a name!! Any suggestions?

Show us your Christmas tree on your blog!!! I want to see!

Updates on December Goals

2009 December 6
by Ashley

Not once did I get up and go to the gym in the early morning this past week. I set me alarm a couple of times, but decided to sleep because the earliest I went to sleep was maybe midnight.

I’ve got to get to bed earlier this week!! There were times I went to bed early, but couldn’t sleep. Very annoying!

I haven’t had any soda since Thanksgiving, so that goal is still in full swing. I was very tempted yesterday morning, though, at one of my jewelry shows. Thankfully, I was able to talk myself out of it and have a little orange juice instead.

This week’s goals?
Get a full night’s sleep!
No soda
Run three miles at least three times
Drink 64 oz water daily

Elf on the Shelf

2009 December 4

I was already terrified of Santa, so this would not have gone over well with me when I was little.

Regardless, read this hilarious post by Carlos Whittaker about his introduction to Elf on the Shelf. It made me LOL.
