Down the Street

•July 30, 2008 • 4 Comments

On our way out of the neighborhood on Sunday morning, we had to take an alternate route through the neighborhood b/c the police had blocked off part of a street. Then we saw about five police cars stationed throughout the street. We didn’t really know what was going on and never looked into it b/c we forgot.

A client clued me in this morning once she realized where I lived. I found this online:
Pelham police today released the name of a 32-year-old woman whose body was found dead in a parked car in the Stonehaven subdivision on Sunday.

She has been identified as Maria Garcia of El Salvador. Pelham police said she also was known as: Maria Luz Ortiz, Luz Rivera DeGarcia and Daisy Xiomara De-Rivera.

Police found her dead in a car parked at curbside on Stonehaven Trail in southwest Pelham about 7 a.m. Sunday. Lt. Davy Lott said the incident is being investigated as a homicide, the city’s first of the year.

Police still are not saying how Garcia was killed. Lott said anyone with information about the incident should contact the Pelham Police Department at 620-6550.

Great. Just great.

The Dark Knight

So, I’ve been thinking about this movie. I think it really was good. Not one of the best movies of all time, which is what I’ve heard so much of. I didn’t even think it was much better if any than Batman Begins. But one thing I really loved about it was Gordon’s little speech at the end. And how Batman is now a villain, or hunted. That’s what I loved about Batman Begins (and even Tim Burton’s Batman) Batman isn’t supposed to play by the rules. But in this film (for the most part) he does or at least he tries to. And in doing so, his character became nothing more than Harvey Dent or Commissioner Gordon. That’s Where The Dark Knight failed. The set up for the third (and I hope last) of these brilliant new looks at Batman, gave me hope that this outlaw character that no one is really sure of, will return. But until that time, The Dark Knight will remain seriously flawed but also very very entertaining.

One of Those Afternoons

•July 24, 2008 • 2 Comments

I’m so thankful this afternoon is over with!!

My morning was great– good coffee and conversation with friends, plus good time taking pictures with Magen.

For the third time in two months, we had someone come out to look at our A/C. These people are just so rude to us every single time, but they’re who we got with our home warranty company. So, therefore, I become a little rude back.

I get home from taking pictures to let the a/c guy in and realize my pictures are missing off of my memory card from the camera. I’m annoyed. Then the a/c guy acts like I’m stupid and there’s nothing wrong with anything in our house. YET, he won’t check the attic or anything in detail. Then he tells me the coils need to be cleaned, but it’s extra money thats not covered under our warranty.

He gets very rude with me and then I just let it out; I told him it wasn’t him, but we’re tired of not finding a real problem and wasting money for people to come out. I basically told him to leave once I wrote him a check for our co-pay. Please do your job and don’t act like just b/c I’m a girl at my house by myself that I’m stupid.

Back to the pictures…they’re gone. Just gone. I couldn’t find them. I almost started crying out of annoyance. Finally, I found a program online for free that was able to recover them, so all was not lost.

My phone kept dropping conversations during all this, which didn’t help my mood.

When Reid got home I pretty much said we’re going out to eat. We get to the restaurant of choice and realize it’s closed. So we drive further through traffic, get out of the car, only to realize that Reid didn’t have his wallet and I didn’t have my purse. So we go home. We finally did eat a good dinner, but were ready to go home and relax.

Ok, these things seem small now, but at the time, they were huge and made me so frustrated. That’s all.

Craziness at the Park

Me and Magen at the park today. We’re weird together sometimes.

This would be my fake America’s Next Top Model pose:

This one makes me laugh because it’s not really Magen’s personality at all:

Never in my life have I seen a sign quite like this!

Jean Insurance?

Even before I started losing weight I’ve had trouble with finding jeans that I like on me that aren’t way too long or way too short, just one of the perks of being petite, I guess. Now that I’ve lost some weight, it’s still a struggle to find that right size. Most of the time I give up and stay away from jeans til I lose a little more so the smaller pairs will fit. Long story short, I never buy jeans.

But that may change.

I found this site, Lose and Win Free Jeans, and I just don’t know if I believe it. Apparently, you go out and buy a new pair of jeans. You send your receipt and 30 percent of the cost of your new denim to Bertie Ranger, the president of the company. After you spend some time eating right and exercising regularly, you’re bound to need a smaller size. So you mail your jeans back to the pres., and she’ll send you the full amount of what you originally paid for them. Then you can go out and buy a second pair of jeans. If you want, you can insure those, too. They said they will do this for whatever cost the jeans are, even $250 jeans!

I think I’m willing to take this risk. Now, to find jeans!

Skin Issues

I finally went to the dermatologist today. Getting an appointment there is tricky since my doctor’s booked up for the next four months! I went for two reasons:

#1: My face has reverted to my teenage days leaving me with lots of acne since I stopped taking the pill.

#2: My on-going annoyance with psoriasis.

Six prescriptions later, I leave the office with tears in my eyes. I think I tear up every time I’m there because the doctors just go “Hmm..well, there’s just not much we can do. Let’s try this. And maybe this. Blah blah blah.” Someone please invent a cure all for this! Granted, I shouldn’t complain this much; it’s not like it’s life-threatening or anything.

The Dr. did suggest giving myself weekly injections. Like I’m really going to do that! I do NOT think so! Plus, the side effects are really dangerous.

So…I opted to try the light treatments three days a week along with specialty creams. Let’s hope this works!

On a lighter note, I got to hang out with Stephanie today! Of course there was coffee involved. One crazy summer three years ago we spent almost every day together, but not so much anymore. She gets married in two weeks, whoowhoo!

Here’s us at either “Prom” or a banquet a few years ago:

I miss this person
