It’s Definitely A Baby

2008 August 26

Reid and I went to the doctor yesterday and confirmed that this is definitely a real baby, not a food baby.

I’ve heard so many different opinions about what would happen during my first visit from all my female clients and random people. I learned my lesson about listening to them…don’t! (Cammie, I should have asked you!!) They said there’s no way I could get an ultrasound; no way we could hear the heartbeat, etc, etc.

They were able to do a regular ultrasound, which was amazing! I wasn’t sure what to expect and how I’d react, but I started crying immediately. It was truly astounding to see our baby’s little heartbeat and then to hear it go “whoosh whoosh whoosh…” rapidly.

It makes it all different. I knew I was pregnant and I could feel it, but actually seeing our little bean-sized baby with a heartbeat makes it that much more real.

We were there for a while, or at least it seemed that way, because the Dr. had to deliver a baby during our visit. One of the perks of visiting an OB. Once we met him, I was so glad I had chosen this doctor. Any doctor that gives me multiple drugs for nausea is a dear friend.

Also, he said that I’m perfectly fine to lift any amount I want to at work and while working out. This is HUGE to me! Now, just to get rid of this nausea and get back to the gym every day! I really do have a goal of gaining only 30-35 pounds at the most during this pregnancy. I don’t know how feasible that really is and how much control I’ll have over that during the last trimester, but I’m going to try!

As for baby details, I am six weeks and five days pregnant. My due date is April 16, 2009. Here’s a picture of either Ivy or Jack Ryan. (I know you shouldn’t announce names early, but who cares, I tell anyone that asks anyway.)

Reid truly has been great for all this. I’m so glad he went with me and has offered to go to all my appts with me b/c it gets so boring! Everything’s more fun with him, anyway. He even gave me beautiful red roses last night! I like him a lot.

Whew, that was a long post!
The end!

I love ultrasounds! It is so amazing to me that one can hear a heartbeat at 6 or 7 weeks…and some people say “it” isn’t a life yet. Um hello can we all say Crazy. Praise the Lord for your precious little one growing inside you! Take care Ashley.
