Chick Flick Week (though I do not agree with that term)

Martian Child

This was one of those good old-fasioned “been done a thousand times, boring” movies. While a great story doesn’t have to be original, it needs a great setting and amazing characters to still be great. This had neither. The only way it would’ve been a good movie in the end is if he really was a Martian. **Spoiler Alert!** He wasn’t.

Juno

Despite a very bad Dollar Theater experience (I don’t want to talk about it, but never go to the 9:45 Saturday night show.) I though this was a great film. It was actually better than I anticipated. Though the dialog was a bit, shall we say… uncomfortable at times, what made it for me were the small moments between characters when nothing was said. There were two moments in particular with Juno and her Dad that really stood out to me. Very good film.

Margot At The Wedding

I apologize in advance if you like this movie but this was a piece of trash. It is quite possibly the worst movie I’ve ever seen and that includes Michael Clayton. I wasn’t a big fan of The Squid and the Whale but at least it had plot elements and multi-sided characters. All I could think about while trying to get through this disgusting vile was what kind of messed up life has Noah Baumbach had? I think an imdb.com reviewer put it best:

“If this writer wants to go to therapy, go. Leave us out of it.”

My thoughts exactly.

i think your review of margot at the wedding is a piece of trash.
just kidding…but seriously…i really enjoyed this movie. i thought it was so realistic and if you really think about the things that happen in the movie and its characters it touches on deep psychological issues and truths…at least it did for me…i saw a lot of myself and other people i know in the characters and the things they did/said. i loved it.

and as for Juno…blah. the dialouge was so over the top…it is not as good as everyone thinks.

I guess I just don’t know anybody like those characters. Or at least I don’t want to see people that way.

Yes the dialouge in Juno was over the top but it was the quiet moments that made it good.

i definitely didn’t like “margot” as much as sheena, but i didn’t hate it. i thought it had some truth to it, and although i was bored during a portion of it, in the end it wasn’t a complete waste of time to me. margot may be one of my least favorite characters in all of history. but in a good way, if that makes sense.

the more and more i think about juno, the less and less i care for it. the first half was just silly. the second half definitely had some touching moments that i really liked, but it didn’t make up for the film as a whole.

i shall never see martian child.

Lori, you should be glad you didn’t go. It was like they let out the juvenile detention center to go catch a flick.
