Ashley Goes To The Doctor

I decided that since I had some free time this morning and I was in pain, I should go to the doctor. I’ve had problems with neck off and on for a couple months. Right now its not that bad, BUT I have a toe on my right foot that is swollen and hurts when I walk/run. Its been like that all week, I’m sure I’ve made it worse by running.

As I sat at the American Family Care waiting room, an older woman sat right next to me. She wanted to sit by me because I looked less sickly than the others there. However, there were plenty of open chairs in the room. But I welcomed the conversation because I had already finished my magazine on Sweden. We chatted for a while. Eventually I found out that SHE was sick with a throat problem. Thanks for choosing me as your next victim!

The first nurse-man I saw was not very nice. He did the standard stuff- questions, blood pressure, temperature. Then the doctor came in. He was extremely friendly with his Looney Toons tie on. He even sang “This Little Piggy” when he was examining my toe.

Then off to the examining room to hang out with Valerie, the x-ray tech. She and I laughed a lot while she took about 12 x-rays (of both my neck and foot/toe). Then back to my examination room. To sit. And dance to I Will Survive that was playing on the radio throughout the building.

Then the dr. came back. I have whiplash. The neck x-rays are being sent off to a radiologist for further examining and I will soon be referred to a chiropractor. I don’t have a broken toe, but he thinks its a stress fracture. Its hard to see those on the x-ray so if its not better by next weekend then I need to come back in for an MRI. I can’t run anymore, at-least not til its better, but I can use the elliptical machine. He thinks the fracture could be from my running shoes; he wants me to get them checked out at Foot Solutions:: problem: my running shoes smell terrible! I once ran in the rain and they’ve never been the same since.

I didn’t think about it til later, but I think I may have gotten the stress fracture from wearing high heels one day a couple weeks ago. I just thought my feet were sore…hmm…I’ll stick to flip flops.

Before I left, I got a shot in each booty cheeck. Anti-flamatories for my neck and toe. OUCH! And two perscriptions.

For the past 9 days I’ve been driving a rented 2007 Saturn. Its time to take it back and pick up Vinnie (my explorer). I will miss the Saturn.

PS: If you feel led to invest in my running efforts, I will gladly accept a new pair of running shoes:: they’re the cheapest at backcountry.com
